of a Strip Club Bouncer Mike
Laughlin-Acoustic Guitar, Vocals; Don Richmond-Weissenborn |

| My
Platoon Sergeant got me a job moonlighting as a bouncer at a club near
where we were stationed. Being from a small town in Northern New Mexico,
I was a bit naïve about such things and such places. It opened my
eyes to how many of us feel the need to put on "masks" to survive
in this world

|
She
walks on to the stage, starts to dance All the guys in this place make me ashamed that I'm a man I look her in the eye, before I look away It's just another night, another start of our work day Tell me, where do you go? You seem so far away The woman you are up there is not the woman that I know Tell me, where do you go? |

| Brother of Mine Mike-Acoustic Guitar, Vocals; Mark Bennett-Percussion; Don Richmond-Bass & Viola; Tony Schueller-Acoustic Guitar | sample | ||

I don't have a brother. I wrote this song about a friend of mine that I was worried about, from what I thought might have been his brother's perspective |
lyrics | ||
| We
all are searching, for that which will make us whole But just because my feet are not journeying, doesn't mean I don't seek with all my soul |

| Back in my wild days, I was in jail in Tennessee when this very large man was thrown in the drunk tank. He held his head in his hands and said "My daddy wouldn't have liked this." The way he said it made it seem like his father had passed on. A few years ago I was holding my son, who was three at the time, and I thought that two of the best feelings I've ever known are holding my son, and being held by my dad. I thought about that guy in Tennessee and the last verse of this song came to me, and the rest just fell into place. |
|
||
| I
still remember my dad and the way he would hold me close I've tried to live the way he'd want, not the way I was shown But it's tragic situations and dives that make me feel most at home And to my shame sometimes my fists have a mind all their own |

My attempt at a "positive" song |
lyrics | ||
| Do
you love the way the sunlight lights up these halls? Do you love at night when the candlelight flickers on the walls? Do you love getting cold outside, coming in, getting warm again? When it's time for you to leave this place, do you love where you've been? Do you love? |

| Another
day, a chance to change her life a different way The candles she lights, too quickly they burn Too many schemes, each day brings a change in her plans it seems But the things she denies, we still wait our turn |

| In
1847, During the Mexican American War, the U.S. Army moved into Northern
New Mexico after the murder of acting Governor Charles Bent. The leaders of the rebellion, [by report, fifteen to eighteen men], were hung by the US forces as traitors, even though they were Mexican citizens. The argument is that these men were not given the rights of prisoners of war |

| I'm,
I'm doing fine, don't give me your attitude, I don't have the time You put on quite a show, but those lies which you keep close have taken their toll People round here don't smile too much whenever you come around They've felt the sting your kind of friendship brings, your promises cast about I really don't care what you tell yourself so you can fall asleep at night Saying that you're sorry, just don't make it right |

| When
I was stationed in North Carolina, I read about an escaped convict that
was found dead under a bridge near his hometown. At the time of his death
he had food and water, and the weather had not been inclement, therefore
the local authorities had trouble determining the cause of death, stating,
"It's as if he just decided to up and die". So, I made up a story around it. |
|
||
| Four
years in prison for something I did not do, But I got out of there and I come straight home to you But I'll wait for you |

| Want to Believe Mike-Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals; Mark Bennett-Drums; Don Richmond-Bass; Tony Schueller-Electric Guitar | sample | ||
| I
was playing music at bar one night when, during a break, a woman came
up to me and asked if I fought forest fires, as she noticed I was wearing fire boots. I told her I used to, but then I got a "real job". I could tell she was a little pissed off as she leaned back and said that she was a fire fighter. I said, "I know, I can tell." Now she was fuming. She said, "What gave it away, my broad shoulders?" I said, "No, the flair of your nostrils and the fire in your eyes when I said I got a real job." After a rocky start we became pretty good friends. I'm sure she's somewhere fighting fires and making jewelry right now. |

| Late
night, parking lot, we stick around to talk, I've been trying to figure out what I believe, yeah, what do I believe? We're sitting in your car, telling each other who we are I'm thinking, maybe we could run, yeah, maybe we could run |

| Forsaken
Mike-Acoustic Guitar, Vocals; Mark
Bennett-Drums; Don Richmond-Bass; Tony Schueller-Electric Guitar |

| I
was at a weekend long spiritual retreat when this song came. We were supposed
to spend the Saturday night of the retreat in silent contemplation, but I had to pick up my guitar and let this one out. |
lyrics | ||
| I'm
standing out here, in the cold I cannot stay warm, even with my big black coat Beneath my boots is the hardest, hardest snow From sad skies above, there's more starting to blow Why have you forsaken me? Why have you forsaken me? Oh Lord, where did you go? |
|||
| Home by Now Mike-Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals | sample | ||
| Observations about people moving into an area without having any respect for what's already there | lyrics | ||
| I
could have been home by now, If not for your trust fund and a projection of a spiritual fad You act as if I should be grateful that you want me to be your new handyman |
|||
|
Think too Much Mike-Electric Guitar, Vocals; Mark Bennett-Drums; Don Richmond-Bass; Tony Schueller-Electric Guitar |

| You
say you think I'm getting ready to run You think I'm thinking of someone else's touch Well baby, I think you think too much |
|
||
| Two
Men Stroll Mike-Acoustic & Electric
Guitars, Vocals; Don Richmond-Bass; Roanne Lewis-Backing Vocals |
sample | ||
| Two
men stroll, through their new town's snow They don't stand too close, they don't want to cause a scene There was a time, when they were in their prime Tried to change some minds about what love could be |
